Convict Surgeon Fish

Description

The Convict Surgeonfish (Acanthurus triostegus), also known as the Convict Tang, is a distinctive marine species noted for its striking black and white striped pattern. The body of this fish is adorned with vertical black stripes against a white or pale background, resembling a convict’s striped uniform. It has a relatively small, oval body and sharp, retractable spines on its tail for defense.

In marine aquariums, the Convict Surgeonfish is valued for its unique coloration and its role in controlling algae growth.

Benefits:

  • Adds visual interest with its bold black and white striped pattern.
  • Helps manage algae levels by feeding on algae and detritus.
  • Hardy and adaptable, making it a suitable choice for various marine tank setups with appropriate care.
